AAYBA – Texas World Series – Flower Mound, TX
July 19-26, 2008

Dallas Royals vs Irving Rangers – Game 1

Royals Defeat Rangers 14-1

The Royals opened the Texas World Series competition by defeating the
Irving Rangers 14-1.  The Royals used a 12 hit attack combined with solid
pitching and good defense to start the tournament on the right foot.

The offense was lead by Tommy’s two doubles and a single, Cody and
Trevor’s two singles and Olajide’s single and solo-homerun.  Jackson,
Darius and Obi also had hits for the Royals during the three-inning affair.
Trevor had his groove working all game long as he allowed only one hit
and two walks while striking out six Rangers throughout the game.

The Royals defense was solid as they made all the rights plays and kept
the Rangers off the base paths for most of the game.

Dallas Royals vs Keller Colts – Game 2

Royals Saddle Colts 7-1

The Royals used a familiar formula of good pitching, solid defense and
timely hitting to defeat the Keller Colts 7-1.  Darius went the distance for
the Royals as he spread four hits and one walk over the well played seven-
inning game.

The Royals took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Olajide, Jackson
and Cody all singled.  The boys took advantage of two Colt errors in the
inning and never looked back.  The Royals added one run in the 3rd and
another in the 5th to build a 4-0 lead.  The game was busted open in the
bottom of the 6th when Alex started with a single and scored on Olajide’s
double.  Darius was robbed two batters later when the Colt left fielder
made a sensational leaping catch. Tommy however followed with a run
scoring double and he later scored on a Colt error.

The Royals defense was solid again as the infield of Cody, Bennett and
Obi displayed good range and reaction as they assisted in 13 putouts
throughout the game.

Dallas Royals vs Texas Sports Black – Game 3

Royals Lay It On the Line… Beat TX Sports Black 10-6

The Royals and TX Sports Black entered the final pool game with
identical 2-0 records.  The Sports Black team had yet to give up a run
while scoring 27 in their first two games and was considered the favorite
against the Royals.  But a funny thing happened over the course of the
game; the Royals outplayed them and came out with a hard fought victory,
10-6.

Once again the Royals used timely hitting, solid defense and controlled
pitching to up-end the Black.  The Boys in Grey opened the game with a 5
run first inning outburst to set the tone.  After Olajide was awarded first
base by a HBP, Jackson, Darius and Tommy all connected with hard
base hits to chase the starting Sports Black pitcher from the mound.  The
assault continued later in the first as Trevor and Alex also singled to drive
in runs.

Sports Black threatened to get back into the game in both the first and
second innings as they had runners in scoring position. However, the
Royals defense stepped up to make the plays.  The infield gobbled up
ground balls and capped off the second inning when Alex made a diving
catch to thwart a rally.

The Royals had a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the third when the
Sports Black bats came alive to score 4 runs.  With the score at 7-4 in the
bottom of the 4th inning, the game took on another level as a two outs
bases loaded Sports Black single drove in two runs and ended with a
major collision at home plate when the Sports Black base runner crashed
into Alex covering home.  Alex held on for the third out and the Sports
Black runner was ejected from the game.  Alex remained in the game and
the Royals really came alive…

With the score 7-6, the Royals immediately scored 3 runs in the top of the
5th as Jackson, Darius, Trevor and Obi ripped the Black’s closer to seal
the victory.  Jackson threw a brilliant bottom of the inning and the Black’s
heart of their order went down quietly to end the game.

The boys earned a day off and will need it to nurse some minor wounds
as Trevor, Bennett, Olajide, Obi and Alex put their bodies on the line for
their team.

Dallas Royals vs SL Dragons Green – Game 4

Royals Rally Comes-Up Short 7-6

The Dallas Royals bid to go undefeated through the first four games of the
World Series fell a run short.  The Royals lost to the Southlake Dragons
Green club 7-6 in another physical game.

The Royals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one as Jackson and Tommy
singled and scored in the inning.  The Dragons responded with three of
their own in the top of the second inning as the Royals had a little trouble
fielding the ball for the first time all tournament. The Royals squandered a
golden opportunity in the bottom of the second inning and third as they
loaded the bases twice with no outs.  Unfortunately, the team was unable
to get a timely hit as the boys were a little over anxious… the Dragon’s
pitchers were truly draggin’ the game along.

The game was marred by another illegal slide from a Royals opponent
when the Dragon’s starting pitcher hit a clean two run double into right
field.  The Royals attempted to throw out a runner at the plate but were
unable to do so.  However, as the batter rounded second and headed to
third, Bennett fired the ball to Cody to apply the tag.  Unfortunately, the
runner left his feet on the slide and jammed his cleats into Cody’s hand.
Cody held on for the out and remained in the game. The base runner was
ejected from the game.

With the Dragon’s leading 7-3 heading into the Royals final at-bat, the
team began to put a string of hits together.  Olajide started the inning with
a single and scored on Darius’ single.  Darius and Tommy (base-on-
balls) scored on Cody’s one-out double.  With the Royals trailing by one
run, Trevor followed with a single to left but the Dragon’s made a good
play to throw-out Cody at the plate to effectively end the game.

The pitching combination of Trevor, Austin and Jason each threw solid
innings for the Royals.  Although it was a tough loss for the team, they
showed they will fight to the end and never give-up.  The loss aligned the
Royals into the “Diamond” division of the WS tournament.

Dallas Royals vs FM Dawgs – Game 5

Royals Rally Pays Off- Defeat FM Dawgs 8-7

The Dallas Royals are starting to look like the comeback kids.  Trailing
the Dawgs 7-4 entering the bottom of the 4th inning, the Royals exploded
with four runs and held on to beat the team from Flower Mound in
dramatic fashion.

The Dawgs got out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the
Royals were able to get one run back in the bottom of the first.  Darius’
two-out walk, aided by a wild pitch, was able to score on Tommy’s single.
The Dawgs regained the three run lead on a solo-homerun but the Royals
responded again in the bottom of the 2nd with a run of their own.  Trevor
and Alex each singled in the inning to make the score 4-2.

The Dawgs scored another run in the 3rd but the Royals chipped away
and scored two of their own in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-
4.  Olajide, Darius and Tommy all had hits in the 3rd inning to close the
gap.

The Dawgs got two more runs in the 4th to take a 7-4 lead.  As the team
has done so many times before, the Royals responded.  Obi started it
with a single and with two outs Jason singled to right scoring Obi.  Austin
followed with a single to right putting runners on first and third with two
outs.  Olajide pounded a hard ground ball that the shortstop was unable to
control.  The hit scored two more runs.  Jackson completed the comeback
with a run scoring double into the left/center field gap.

With the Royals leading 8-7 Darius faced the heart of the Dawgs line-up.
Although the Dawgs threatened and had runners on first and second, the
Royals ultimately shut the door when Olajide squeezed a fly ball to left field
to end the game.

The pitching combination of Bennett, Cody and Darius kept the Royals in
the game and allowed the comeback kids to do that thing they do…

Dallas Royals vs Coppell Copperheads

Royals Defeat Copperheads- Earn Birth to “Diamond” Division
North Championship

The Dallas Royals defeated the Coppell Copperheads 11-3 and earned
the right to play the Texas Bandits in the Diamond Division North
championship game. The Royals used early run production to jump out to
an 8-0 lead which was more than enough for Jackson as he went the
distance on the mound.

The first two innings saw hits by Austin, Olajide, Tommy and two by
Jackson and Darius. Although the Copperheads scored a run in the top of
the third, the inning was highlighted by a good backhand put out from
Trevor at shortstop.  The Copperheads scored two more runs in the top of
the 4th to close the gap to 8-3.

The Royals responded in the bottom of the 4th when Darius drew a two
out walk and scored on Tommy’s deep triple to center field.  Tommy
scored when Cody hit a first pitch single into left field and Cody scored
later in the inning on a Copperhead error.  Trevor also singled in the
inning.

With the score 11-3, Jackson shut the door with two strike outs in the 5th
inning.  In total, Jackson struck-out six while walking only 1 and scattered
just 5 hits throughout the game.  Another excellent pitching performance
by the Royals as it marked the 4th complete game of the World Series
tournament.

Dallas Royals vs Texas Bandits

Royals Knock-off Bandits – Play in Diamond Division
Championship Game!!!

As the temperature gauge hit 103 degrees, the Royal fans in the stands
were sweating bullets as the Bandits were threatening to steal a game.
However, the Royals saved their bats for the last inning and then exploded
with a 9-run outburst ending the game 13-3.

The game started off good as the Royals shut down the Bandits 1, 2, 3.
The first inning was capped when Trevor made an over-the-back grab of
a fly ball destined to land into shallow left field.  When the play was over,
Trevor had an ice cream cone catch to savor…

The Royals took a 3-0 lead after two innings as Darius and Obi had hits,
Cody was hit by a pitch and all three ultimately scored through a series of
wild pitches and sacrifice outs.

With Jason cruising on the mound through the first two innings, the
Bandits did manage to string back-to-back hits in the 3rd to score a run.
The Royals answered back with a run of their own when Tommy knocked
Olajide home with a bases-loaded single to left.

The Bandits scored two more in the top of the 4th to make the score 4-3
entering the bottom half of the inning.  As momentum began to swing in
favor of the team from Lake Dallas, the Royals started to roll.  Trevor
began the inning with a double to left center and scored when Obi’s hit
was misplayed by the Bandits second basemen.  Obi took third when
Alex singled up the middle.  With two men in scoring position Bennett
drilled a double into left center scoring two.  Jason followed with a smash
single to left and Austin followed with a major league hit-by-pitch.

Olajide kept the Royal run parade going as he singled home both Jason
and Austin.  With two outs Tommy singled home Olajide and Cody drove
Olajide home with a solid double.  Trevor, who started the inning reached
on an error and the game ended as Obi singled to center scoring Cody
and imposing the run rule in favor of the Royals.

Jason pitched a wonderful game allowing only one earned run on 3 hits,
striking out 4, walking 1 and executing a perfect pick-off at first base.  It
marked the 5th complete game of the tournament for the Royal pitching
staff.

Dallas Royals vs Dallas Mustangs – World Series Championship Game

Magical Season Ends – Royals Crowned World Series Runner–Up

When the spring 2008 season began back in late winter the coaching
staff saw great potential in the Royals.  When the season came to a close
in the sizzling summer heat at the AAYBA World Series tournament
championship game, the coaches hopes were confirmed, this group of
Royals had made great strides towards their potential.

Although the Royals lost the WS championship game to the Dallas
Mustangs 14-9, the team played well throughout the tournament and truly
believed in themselves and their teammates.  Every player made a
contribution to the team, every player improved throughout the year, and
every player helped make the spring 2008 season a memorable
experience.

The championship game itself started out well for the Royals.  After the
Mustangs opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, the
Royals bounced right back by scoring 5 of their own.  Olajide started with
a walk and scored on Jackson’s double to left.  Darius followed with a run
scoring double and Tommy followed with a walk.  After a Mustang pitching
change, Trevor connected on a 3-run homer over the left field fence giving
the Royals a 5-2 edge.

Darius settled into a groove in the 2nd inning as he was backed by a nice
defensive play by Trevor handling a hard hit ball into the hole and throwing
out the runner at first.  The Royal bats stayed hot in the bottom of the 2nd
as Jackson started a two-out rally by doubling to right/center. Darius
singled putting runners on the corners and Tommy drove them both home
with a single to right/center. Cody brought Tommy home with a double
and forced another pitching change by the Mustangs, their fourth of the
young game.

The Mustangs tried to get back into the game in the 3rd but a lead runner
was extinguished as Bennett threw out the would-be base-stealer. Darius
retired the next two batters to keep the score 8-2.

The game began to turn in favor of the Mustangs in the 5th inning as their
bats started to come alive.  By the time the inning was over the Royals
lead had been cut to 9-7.  The momentum stayed with the Mustangs in the
6th inning as they strung together five hits and were aided by a few Royal
miscues to take an insurmountable 14-9 lead. The Royals did threaten in
the 7th by loading the bases, but were unable to complete the comeback.
